🇬🇧 ON or AT or TO + PAGE? Or NATURAL ALTERNATIVES? 🇬🇧
Hi guys! How is your summer going? I hope all fine and dandy. The other day I was basking in the sun, having the occasional swim (in the Volga), working on my tan (more like burning) when all of a sudden a follower asked me the difference between these prepositions + page. It's an easy one to answer but I'll give you some natural alternatives to use with your students as well 🤗
✅ ON + page = stressing where the content is
👉🏻 Sorry I'm late. What page are we ON?
👉🏻 How can you be ON page 34289 of War and Peace when you started it only yesterday?
👉🏻 Bloody pancake! Why did you remove my bookmark? I can't remember which page I'm ON now!
✅ TO + page = involving movement
👉🏻 Guys, now turn TO page 10.
👉🏻 Open your books TO page 5.
👉🏻 Go TO page 100. You'll find the verb list there.
✅ AT + page = often collocates with 'open' in BrE
👉🏻 My book fell on the floor and opened AT the correct page!
👉🏻 The wind blew my book open AT page 50.
👉🏻 Guys, have your books ready AT page 10
👉🏻 Open your books AT page 10 (more UK English but we can also say TO just as much)
💥 Natural alternatives
👉🏻 Which page are we doing today?
👉🏻 Guys, today we'll continue from where we left off, page 10
👉🏻 Open your books and find page 20, guys.
👉🏻 So my dear students, we'll be doing page 20 and 21 today.
👉🏻 Open your books and let's kick off with page 10. (say this when you're feeling really inspired and motivated. Stress: let's kick off)
👉🏻 Boys and girls, page 20 (gesture opening a book), so let's get started.
👉🏻 That's page 19 done. Let's press on with page 20.
😎 Soooooooo simple but so effective!
